Accessibility Statement

Englander Equestrian wants every rider, and every parent buying for a child, to be able to use englanderequestrian.co.uk. Just Horse Riders Limited runs the site and aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. If any part of the site is hard to use, or you need product information in another format, email hello@englanderequestrian.co.uk.

Our aim

This statement applies to englanderequestrian.co.uk. The site is run by Just Horse Riders Limited, a family-run Lancashire retailer trading since 2010, and Englander Equestrian is its own brand of riding boots and riding wear. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. WCAG is the international standard for accessible websites, and level AA is the target we have set ourselves. We would rather tell you where we fall short than claim the site is perfect. The known limitations below list what we have not fixed yet.

What we are building the site to do

• Every page has one main heading and a clear heading order, so screen reader users can jump through it.
• Product photos have alt text that says what the boot or tights look like, not just the product name.
• Size charts are real HTML tables, not pictures of tables, so they can be read aloud, enlarged and copied.
• Text can be enlarged to 200 per cent without losing content or function, and the site works on a phone as well as a desktop.
• The colours are navy, black and white, chosen for contrast. Information is never given by colour alone. Whether a size is in stock is shown in words, not only by shading.
• Everything works with a keyboard alone, and the item you are on is always visibly highlighted.
• Forms have visible labels, and error messages say what went wrong and how to fix it.
• Videos do not play automatically. Nothing flashes.
• Links say where they go. We avoid "click here".
• Plain English and short sentences. We explain riding terms such as jodhpur boots, tall boots and calf width rather than assume them.

Known limitations

• The product videos for the Aiya riding tights, the Athena tall boots and the Hera country boots do not yet have written transcripts. We plan to add a transcript under each video. Until then, the facts shown in each video are also written on that product page.

Parts of the site are provided by other companies, and we cannot change their code: the Shopify checkout, the YouTube video player, the reviews display and the cookie banner.

Product information in another format

If a size chart, product page or policy is hard to read on the site, we will send it another way. Email hello@englanderequestrian.co.uk and say which product and which format you need, such as plain text or large print. The boot size ladders are also written out in words on the size guide, including the point that there is no EU 40 in any of our boot ranges: UK 6 is EU 39 and UK 7 is EU 41.

How we test

As a minimum we check the site with a keyboard only, with a screen reader, at 200 per cent zoom and on a phone, and we check colour contrast against the WCAG level AA ratios. We repeat the checks when we change the design or add a new tool.
