Size Guide for Englander Equestrian Boots and Tights

Englander Equestrian adult boots run UK 4 to 8 (EU 37 to 42, no EU 40); Athena adults add UK 9. Children's boots run UK 10 to 3 (EU 28 to 35, no EU 29). UK 6 is EU 39 and UK 7 is EU 41. Aiya riding tights go by waist, 20 to 28 inches. All have 90-day returns.

Every number on this page is copied from our own size charts. Where a chart is missing, or two of our sources disagree, we say so rather than guess. Measure first, then choose, and if the size is still wrong when the box arrives you have 90 days to send it back.

UK to EU sizes, range by range

All Englander Equestrian boots use the same two ladders. Here is each range on its own:

• Gaia jodhpur boots (adult, pull-on): UK 4 / EU 37, UK 5 / EU 38, UK 6 / EU 39, UK 7 / EU 41, UK 8 / EU 42. Unisex.
• Gaia childs jodhpur boots: UK 10 / EU 28, UK 11 / EU 30, UK 12 / EU 31, UK 13 / EU 32, UK 1 / EU 33, UK 2 / EU 34, UK 3 / EU 35.
• Gaia Zipped jodhpur boots (adult): UK 4 / EU 37, UK 5 / EU 38, UK 6 / EU 39, UK 7 / EU 41, UK 8 / EU 42.
• Athena adults tall boots: UK 4 / EU 37, UK 5 / EU 38, UK 6 / EU 39, UK 7 / EU 41, UK 8 / EU 42, UK 9 / EU 43. Standard and Wide calf in every size.
• Athena childs tall boots: UK 10 / EU 28, UK 11 / EU 30, UK 12 / EU 31, UK 13 / EU 32, UK 1 / EU 33, UK 2 / EU 34, UK 3 / EU 35. One calf width.

There is no EU 40 (and no EU 29 or 36)

Our ranges skip three EU sizes, so a generic EU size list would offer sizes we do not make. Adults: UK 6 is EU 39 and UK 7 is EU 41; there is no EU 40 in any Englander Equestrian range. Children: UK 10 is EU 28 and UK 11 is EU 30, so there is no EU 29. Children's sizes stop at UK 3 (EU 35) and adult sizes start at UK 4 (EU 37), so there is no EU 36 either. If you normally buy one of those three EU sizes, choose by your UK size and read the between-sizes note further down.

Foot length in centimetres

Measure your feet anyway, using the steps below, so the number is ready when the table goes live.

How to measure foot length

1. Measure later in the day, wearing the socks you ride in.
2. Put a sheet of paper on a hard floor with one edge against a wall. Stand on it with your heel touching the wall and your weight on that foot.
3. Mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe.
4. Measure from the wall edge of the paper to the mark, in centimetres, to the nearest 0.5 cm.
5. Repeat with the other foot. Use the longer of the two measurements.

For a child, do the same with the child standing straight and looking ahead, not down at the paper. Children's feet change quickly, so measure again before each order rather than reusing an old number.

How to measure your calf and leg for tall boots

Athena tall boots and Hera country boots are chosen by UK size and by calf measurement. Measure in centimetres, wearing the socks and the jodhpurs or riding tights you ride in.

1. Sit on a chair with both feet flat on the floor and your knee bent at a right angle.
2. Calf: wrap a soft tape around the widest part of your calf. Keep the tape level and snug, not tight. Write the number down in cm.
3. Height: measure from the floor to the crease at the back of your knee. Write the number down in cm.
4. Repeat on the other leg. Use the larger calf measurement.
5. Find your UK size in the Athena or Hera table below and read across. If your calf is above the Standard figure for your size, choose Wide.
6. Compare your floor-to-knee measurement with the boot height column.

Athena tall boots: height and calf

Measurements in centimetres from our Athena chart. Calf is the circumference the boot is cut to fit at its widest point. Wide adds 5 cm at UK 4 and 5, 4 cm at UK 6 and 3 cm at UK 7 to 9. The figures are the manufacturer's. The designed chart graphic used on some listings prints the UK 7 and UK 8 heights one centimetre taller and calls the narrower fit Regular; the manufacturer's figures and the name Standard are the ones published here.

Athena childs tall boots come in one calf width. The chart has no row for UK 10, so that size is marked to confirm.

Hera country boots: height, ankle and calf

Measurements in centimetres from our Hera chart. Height and ankle are the same for Standard and Wide; Wide adds 6 cm at the top of the calf in every size. Ankle is the boot's measurement around the ankle: Hera pulls on with no zip, so the foot passes through it. Top calf is the boot's measurement at its top edge, and Hera has an elasticated panel and working calf laces, so the top adjusts.

Gaia, Gaia Zipped and Atlas: shoe size only

Gaia and Gaia Zipped jodhpur boots are ankle height, so there is no calf measurement to take. Choose by UK size from the adult or children's ladder above. Atlas zip-front yard boots are also chosen by UK size only, in one width.

Aiya riding tights: waist sizes

Aiya riding tights (Plain, Rock N Roll and Unicorn) are sized by waist in inches, and all three designs use the same five sizes. The range is made for children of around 3 to 12 years. Go by the waist measurement, not the age.

How to measure a child's waist

1. Wrap a soft tape around the natural waist, the narrowest point above the hips, over a thin layer or bare skin.
2. Keep the tape level and snug, not tight.
3. Read the number in inches, or read it in millimetres and use the table above. Pick the size that matches.

The waistband is 5 cm deep with stitched-in elastic.

Whichever size you choose, the returns promise below covers sending it back.

If the size is wrong: 90-day returns

Every Englander Equestrian product has 90-day easy returns. That is on top of your statutory 14-day right to cancel, not instead of it. Try boots on indoors on a clean floor so they can go back in the condition they arrived. Details are on the warranty and returns page and in the refund policy.
