Aiya Children's Riding Tights (Plain)

Aiya children's riding tights (Plain) are Englander Equestrian's black or navy riding tights for children. They pull on like leggings, with a full-seat silicone grip, a phone pocket on each side and a wide covered waistband. They cost £24.95 including VAT and come in five waist sizes, 20 to 28 inches, for children of around 3 to 12.

What you get

These are the plain version of the Aiya range: no print, just black or navy. The fabric is a four-way stretch knit of 76% nylon and 24% elastane, the same in the cloth and the seat. The waistband is wide and high-rise, a 5 cm covered band with elastic stitched inside. Each side has a drop-in pocket sized for a phone. The seams are flat and smooth on the inside, the side panels are doubled, and the ankle hems are folded rather than left raw.

Branding is kept small: ENGLANDER printed down the outer left thigh, small silicone logos on the pocket and the waistband, and a tonal hexagon-E on the centre back of the waistband.

Who they are for

• Children who are learning to ride, or riding regularly at lessons and at the yard.
• Children with a waist between 20 and 28 inches, which is around 3 to 12 years.
• Parents who want a plain, easy-wash riding tight in a colour that goes with everything.
• Riders who want a full-seat grip rather than knee patches.

Who they are not for

• Adults and older teenagers. There are no adult Aiya sizes yet.
• Children with a waist under 20 inches or over 28 inches.
• Children who want a print. See the Rock N Roll or Unicorn designs instead.
• Anyone whose riding school, yard or show has a dress code that asks for something other than riding tights. Check with them first.

Why the full seat matters for a learner

Every Aiya tight has a silicone grip printed across the seat and down the inside of each leg to the knee. Smooth fabric slides on a saddle; silicone does not. A child who is still learning to sit to the trot gets a little more purchase, which makes it easier to stay in the middle of the saddle and keep the lower leg still while their balance catches up.

Think of the grip as a helping hand, not a safety feature. It does not replace balance, a properly fitted riding hat or a good instructor. A hat is essential; ask your riding school what standard it expects.

Fit and sizing

Sizes are by waist in inches, not by age and not by dress size. The size label on each pair reads the waist in inches.

Take a tape around your child's waist, over a thin layer, and pick the size nearest that number. Age is only a rough guide; the tape decides. How to measure is on the size guide.

Care

Follow the care label: a 40°C machine wash, on their own, with a detergent for delicate fabrics. No fabric conditioner or softener, no bleach, no tumble dryer. Dry them slowly and, if you must iron, use the lowest setting. The label also warns that a little colour may come out in the wash, and that the fabric is not protected against pilling from rubbing.
