About this product

What the Athena adults tall boot is

Athena is the step-up boot in our range. It is a tall boot for the rider who has done the first few lessons and now wants the leg coverage of a long boot for schooling, hacking, lessons and lower-level shows. The front is laced in the field-boot style. The back has a full-length zip with a wide stretch panel beside it, so the boot opens from the top down and closes over the calf. An elastic strap with a press stud crosses the top of the zip to hold it shut. The top edge is shaped, with a piped seam and a small hexagon tab.

The upper is synthetic vegan leather. Inside, the boot is padded and the sole is cushioned. Underneath is a black rubber sole with a wavy tread and a low block heel. The hexagon-E mark is embossed on the outside ankle panel and on the heel counter, and the ENGLANDER wordmark is moulded into the sole beside the EU size. The boot wipes clean and needs no polish.

Fit and sizing

Foot size

Order by your UK size. Athena skips some EU numbers: UK 6 is EU 39 and UK 7 is EU 41; there is no EU 40 in this range. UK 9 is EU 43.

Standard or Wide calf

A tall boot is cut to a calf measurement as well as a foot size. Calf means the distance around the widest part of your lower leg, in centimetres. Standard and Wide share the same foot sizes and the same boot heights; the only difference is the width at the calf. Wide adds 5 cm to the calf range at UK 4 and UK 5, 4 cm at UK 6 and 3 cm at UK 7 to UK 9.

Find your UK size in the table above and read across. If your calf is within the Wide range for your size, choose Wide. Our size-chart graphic calls the narrower fit Regular; it is the same fit this page calls Standard.

Care

After each ride, wipe the boots over with a damp cloth and stand them somewhere cool to dry. The upper is synthetic, so there is nothing to polish or feed. Keep the rear zip clear of mud and grit before you close it, and if it sticks, work it free gently rather than forcing it.

Questions riders ask

Are these wide calf riding boots under £60?

Yes. Athena adults tall boots are £59.95 including VAT, and every size from UK 4 to UK 9 comes in a Wide calf as well as Standard, at the same price. Wide adds 5 cm to the calf range at UK 4 and 5, 4 cm at UK 6 and 3 cm at UK 7 to 9. The widest fit, UK 9 Wide, is cut for a calf of 43 to 45.5 cm.

Is a synthetic tall boot good enough for lessons and shows?

For lessons, schooling, hacking and lower-level shows, yes. Athena has a synthetic vegan leather upper that wipes clean, a padded interior and a rubber sole, for £59.95. For comparison, of the 22 adult tall riding boots from other brands that Just Horse Riders had in stock on 7 September 2026, the lowest price was £59.62 and the middle price was £102.91. What you give up is leather itself: Athena will not polish up or age like leather, and it is not waterproof. If it is not right for you, you have 90 days to send it back.

Do I need a tall boot as a beginner?

Not at first. For the first few lessons a short jodhpur boot such as our Gaia jodhpur boots at £29.95 is the simpler buy. Athena is the tall boot for a rider who is having regular lessons and wants a long boot for schooling, hacking and a first show, at £59.95.

Are Athena adults tall boots waterproof?

No. The upper is water-resistant and wipes clean, but Athena is not built for standing in a wet yard or riding in heavy rain. If you need a waterproof boot, the Hera country boots have a 100% waterproof construction with sealed seams.

Can I wear Athena adults tall boots for a show?

Athena is built for lower-level shows. It is black and plain, with the zip at the back. If you compete at a higher level, or your class has its own footwear rules, check those rules before you buy.
